Red Bull's Shoot To Thrill Premier

Last night at the Garrick Theater Red Bull and Color Magazine premiered "Shoot To Thrill" that featured talent from all over Canada. The concept of the film was to gather groups of skaters skating spots in there home town. Each team had 72 hours to shoot there short film on 16 mm film which added a unique and "classic" element. The Winnipeg Section featured Jason Crolly, Mike McDermott, Colin Lambert, and Chris Rossong. Our home town boys skated amazing but didn't take the grand prize. My favorite was the short called "Mirrors" featuring Rick McCrank, Bradley Sheppord and some other Van locals. The entire film was shot in unique reflections using water, broken mirrors, sunny glasses, and windows. The winner was no surprise with a team stacked with Paul Machnau, Ryan Decenzo, and Magnus Hanson. There theme was based on the 80's film "Thrashin" were the group raced through the city hitting some famous Vancouver spots on the way. I thought the concept of the film was very cool but it left me wanting more. 72 hours is not really enough time to get stuff done especially when there is weather elements that can hinder the event. Every team did a great job but I think if every team had more time to get things done it would have blown minds. Overall I give the video a 3.5 out 5.
